Three decades of Cold Logic

17 May 2016 - 2:14pm

Adelaide-based industrial refrigeration manufacturer, supplier and contractor, Cold Logic, recently celebrated 30 years of business.

It's hard to believe that Jeff Cannan and David Lane started the business with two panel vans and a bunch of tools.

The company's technical director, Brad Semmler, was the first apprentice at Cold Logic 27 years ago.

That's not the only first. Cold Logic installed a large ammonia heat pump energy recovery plant at Thomas Food International's Lobethal plant in 2012.

Sales and marketing director Eddie Lane said using waste heat from the ammonia refrigeration plant and converting the energy into usable hot water can provide significant operational savings.

“Since we established Cold Logic, we've constructed 280,000 square metres of cold storage facilities. That's the equivalent of 14 MCG's,” he said.

Cold Logic's client list includes Coopers Brewery, Arnotts, Pernod Ricard Winemakers and JBS.

Lane said the company has developed a strategy for sustained growth over the next five years and is aiming to reach an annual turnover of $25 million by 2020.

“Currently, 60 per cent of our clients are South Australian-based, while 40 per cent of our clients are interstate. We are keen to expand through the eastern seaboard,” he said.

Cold Logic manufactures all its refrigeration equipment on site at its Port Adelaide headquarters.

“We have a full fabrication workshop and design facility and also, offer a full fleet of service people on the road,” he said.

During its 30 year history, the company has chilled 2.8 million tonnes of red meat, chilled 1.4 billion litres of beer and refrigerated 7.9 billion bottles of wine.
