Challenge: Haigh’s Chocolates expansion of their Mile End site has required a state of the art refrigeration solution. This was to provide hot and cold water to several stages of the new chocolate processing plant as well as cooling and ventilation of various rooms throughout the factory. The solution was to be highly efficient, using quality robust equipment with provision to provide redundancy with duty / standby equipment at a later date. The system installed initially at stage 1 was to cater for the future loads where practical and where not, be built to allow the easy expansion without the need to shut down the system.
Outcome: In 2018 Cold Logic has completed stage 1 of this multistage expansion project. The installation included an ammonia-based refrigeration system to accommodate the cooling needs and a natural gas-fired hot water generator to provide hot water to the plant. Stage 1 has been completed with the future plant development in mind, allowing for expansion without the need for a system shutdown.
