Cold Logic History

need maximum Refrigeration efficiency with minimum fuss?

How Cold Logic Started.

In 1983 Jeff Cannan and David Lane began discussion's about starting their own industrial refrigeration business that out customer service first.

After a meeting with the accountants (the same ones Cold Logic still use today), Dave and Jeff committed to making their dream happen - without even understanding the spreadsheets and number the accountants had given them.

The business began August 1984 and was named Industrial Refrigeration Services or IRS and known as "The Bears" or the Internal Revenue Service. Building the business from the ground up meant a lot of time was spent away from their families, both having wives and young children at the time. It was tough.

After twelve months, Jeff and Dave had out grown their first site and decided to purchase their own property at 98 Frederick Street Welland.

Reality Set in....

David and Jeff were always constantly growing the business by building condenser coils, increasing stock refrigeration parts and buying lots of second hand equipment. They became experts in reconditioning and refurbishing this equipment.

Reality struck in 1989/90 when the recession hit South Australia. Dave and Jeff suddenly had to reduce their debt or risk losing everything. To rub salt into the wound, they had just lost 66% of our total business.  They had to lay off staff, put apprentices on suspension (a very hard thing to do when you are such a small company) and dip deep into their own pockets to keep the business afloat.

The next few years were tough but we got through it, as did some other businesses in South Australia. It was a testing time, but Jeff and Dave pulled through.

And then what?

Cold Logic relocated to Port Adelaide in 1996 which was opened by the Honorable John Olsen, this was a big step and big commitment for Dave and Jeff.

In 1999 IRS merged with a Melbourne Company known as Complete Refrigeration Services and was then renamed Cold Logic.

The rest as they say, is history.

"We started out in 1984 with a turn over of $300K to where we are today. Plenty of blood sweat and tears have gone in along the way and the ride has been exciting and challenging. It has set a strong foundation for Cold Logic's future growth".
